contingency plan –noun
1. a course of action to be followed if a preferred plan fails or an existing situation changes.
2. a plan or procedure that will take effect if an emergency occurs; emergency plan.
In other words, if you are shopping your pro bowl quarterback, one would assume you would look for a halfway decent quarterback as part of the deal. Nope. According to the Broncos, "getting a quarterback in exchange is not a necessity." This makes sense, the Broncos are loaded with solid QB's. The backups in Denver are the little spleen that could Chris Simms, a bag of dicks, and BWP's own Rob.
There's a great article in The Onion on this topic. The sad part is, as this plays out, I'm not 100% sure it is out of the realm of possibility.
